Red Herring is an international media company that focuses on innovative technology. In addition to operating a magazine, industry newsletters, and a daily news service, the firm also connects technology trailblazers to business executives at award events, such as the Red Herring Top 100 awards ceremony.

The award recognizes the most exciting startups in North America, Asia and Europe. First developed in 1996, the Top 100 awards list only includes private firms that operate in either the technology or life sciences sectors. In developing the list, Red Herring utilizes over 20 criteria to rigorously analyze each candidate. The factors evaluated include company revenue, growth, branding, and social impact.
